If you’re a runner or cyclist, you probably know that the right workout can help prevent injuries. But what if your sport isn’t so straightforward? How do athletes stay safe and injury free? The answer is a combination of stretching, strength building and other popular workout methods. Let’s take a closer look at some of these techniques!
Trigger Point Therapy
One of the best ways to prevent injuries is to use this trigger point therapy. The idea behind it is simple: if you know where your muscles are tight, then you can stretch those areas before they get too tight and cause problems. When you feel a muscle getting sore or tight, stop exercising that area immediately and try some self-massage techniques such as foam rolling or stretching out your muscles (don’t pull too hard!).
This approach also works well for treating existing injuries–if something hurts when you use it, stop using that part until it feels better again!
Heat/Ice Therapy
When you’re injured, heat therapy can be very helpful in reducing inflammation and swelling. Heat increases blood flow to the affected area of your body, which helps to bring nutrients to damaged tissues.
Ice therapy is also great for reducing pain because it constricts blood vessels near the injury site and reduces swelling by reducing fluid accumulation in surrounding tissue. A combination of heat and ice is best according to Dr Bruce Grossinger: 20 minutes on one side, then 20 minutes on the other side–or alternate between them every few minutes if you want more immediate results (though this may not be necessary).
Massage Therapy
Dr Bruce Grossinger Massage therapy can help alleviate pain, as well as preventing injuries. There are many different types of massage therapy, each with their own benefits. Massage therapy can help with muscle tension, reduce stress and improve circulation.
Massage is also a good way to manage chronic pain by reducing stiffness in your joints or muscles while increasing blood flow through your body. It’s important that you find a qualified professional who knows how to work around sensitive areas such as the spine (which should never be massaged).
